Comfort in Chaos

“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation"

There are times when we just sit and watch our comfort shows like Brooklyn Nine Nine or Modern Family or even Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashma. On some days we just prefer to watch the most heartwarming movies like Tangled, Harry Potter or even Marvel movies. It feels so relaxing to have a go-to movie or show or even music for that matter that makes us feel good, no matter what goes around us. We know that there is something calming to go back to and no matter how tough things go out here, something will surely enhance the mood.

Experts claim that watching comfort TV can improve your mental health. You can take care of your mental health and establish equilibrium with the aid of comfort shows. Additionally, they may enhance emotional health. Comfort shows are a fantastic way to take care of yourself and de-stress. They can also assist you in recharging your brain, which can enhance your mood and increase your capacity to handle frustration. Additionally, comfort television can serve as a helpful reminder of the pleasures of friendship, easy laughter, and a well-known plot.

- Watching something new always requires thinking because there are new characters to get to know, story points to keep in mind, outcomes to anticipate, and the potential for a bad turn. But when we watch an old favorite, there's no suspense, no cliffhangers, and no anxious anticipation, which makes it easier for our overworked, exhausted brains to digest.

- Additionally, there is some evidence that viewing TV can help us relax when we are overwhelmed and under stress. In particular, studies suggest that when we feel exhausted, we tend to favor familiar TV series and that watching them helps us feel more in control of our behavior after a time of activity.

- An idea known as the mere exposure effect is consistently supported by research. In general, we tend to like something more the more times we are exposed to it. This occurs as a result of prior experiences increasing what's known as perceptual fluency, or our ability to process information more easily in subsequent situations. Easy-to-process information tends to elicit happy feelings in us, which increases our liking of the item.

It might not be new news for you that you might have some comfort shows and movies that help you feel better and give the best relaxation. This was very common even during pandemic as we did not just go back to our old shows and movies but also to music and certain habits. It was comforting to have that old parle g with chai or even to make our childhood favorite delicacies or our beloved comics . It is an absolute relief to know that there is some comfort in the smallest thing, be it a song you heard back in childhood or a movie that made you cry your eyes out which could help now to vent out emotions or even eating those absolutely delicious sweet candy of childhood and feel like a 10 year old again.

It anyway feels that winter is a time of nostalgia, so go and binge it all during this festive season.

(of course in limits XD)
